| Why buy Locally: |
|
As virtually everyone knows by now, Apple Canada sells direct to the consumers via their website and their retail stores. It’s a good deal for Apple, because they get to bypass the middleman (us) and thus make more money. We don’t blame them for this, but we do think consumers should stop and think for a second.
When you buy direct from the manufacturer, you narrow your service and support choices to only one company. When you buy from a reseller, you have both Apple and the reseller on board to help you with your issues. In other words, it is in consumer’s best interest to vote with his/her dollars to say that they want that merchant to stay in business so that the consumer's options stay open.
When you shop direct from Apple Stores, you’re essentially voting for them to be the only place to go and buy Apple equipment. Because, believe me, as insanely great as their products are, they are still a company driven by the bottom line. If they ever feel that they can handle most of their business direct and not utilize resellers, they’ll do it in a heartbeat. The only thing to prevent that is for consumers to support resellers, which gives them more access to more products, more options for service, more places to buy, and frankly, usually better prices and more personalized local service. That is precisely the reason we have been doing business for 15 years.
Most of us have seen local retailers throwing out a “Buy Local!” slogan. That slogan really doesn’t have a lot of meaning if the prices are higher and the service is poor. But as a factor to blend into your buying decisions and shopping habits, we think supporting locally-based companies is a good thing for each one of us. A local-business-supported community will benefit all of us far more than the big-box-Fortune-500 landscape that too much of North America is turning into.
